LIGO SURGICAL MASTER'S COURSES

Designed for gynecologic surgeons and oncologists, these intensive hands-on 'how to' courses demonstrate multiple techniques of total laparoscopic hysterectomy and advanced laparoscopic and oncological procedures using slides, videos, suture challenges on pelvic trainers and an optional cadaver lab. Our goal is to teach TLH efficiently and effectively by using one proven energy source; operating through the smallest incisions, with the most universally available tools, and by advancing skills using three proven learning techniques: video, haptic and didactic.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of these courses, surgeons will have better understanding of the following as they apply to patient care:

  1. Total laparoscopic hysterectomy: four techniques
  2. Advanced laparoscopic procedures: enterocele repair, uterosacral ligament plication, ureterolysis and bowel resection for endometriosis, cystoscopy, appendectomy
  3. Laparoscopic radical hysterectomy, transperitoneal pelvic and retroperitoneal aortic node dissections, omentectomy, and staging of malignancies
  4. Laparoscopic surgery for the very obese, the very large mass, and the very large uterus
  5. Anesthetic implications of steep trendelenberg and pneumoperitoneum
  6. Avoidance and management of intestinal and urological injury
  7. Ethical issues of incorporating new skills into practice
